General Comments:

The simulation was very interesting and motivating, because it showed the real situation that is going to occur in the European community during the next years. I hope that we could really have the educational system that we developed in project IDEELS. (Telecommunications Student, Valencia)

I really enjoyed it and I am very proud of what we achieved. Indeed, at the beginning, I believed we would never be able to do it. But we did it...and quite well I think... (Socrates Exchange Student from France studying in Bremen)

I am truly favorable to simulation as a tool for learning: it is rich, motivating, and relevant. So, I finally really enjoyed taking part to such a simulation: it is a great experience that I recommend to every student. (Socrates Exchange Student from France studying in Bremen)

...we sometimes felt frustrated because we did not reach a global agreement, but I believe that if we think that the most important part of the simulation was working in groups, defending ideas, reasoning out positions and all of this in English, the aim of the project is more than accomplished. I really liked going to English class. You could participate in the development of the course. We sat in a big circle and all points of view were considered. Conditions were favorable for improving oral skills. (Telecommunications Student, Valencia)

We can extend the experience achieved from this simulation course to the real life about the use of new information technologies that are so important in a future information society. Europeans will have to learn to use the new information and communication tools from an early age if they are to find a place for themselves in an increasingly knowledge based society. The European Council has acknowledged the need to act without delay in order to ensure that schools are not left out in the information society. Stimulating best practices will help bring different cultures together. (Telecommunications Student, Valencia)

Language and Communication:

We learned English and we improved our fluency without effort thanks to Project IDEELS. Even more, we did not just learn English, we learned how to look for good arguments and how to negotiate. (Telecommunications Student, Valencia)

[I liked] learning the tertiary education terminology. Now I know what distributed learning, polytechnic, tele-teaching, just-in-time learning and so on, is. I think the glossary on the IDEELS homepage was a very good idea. It helped me a lot. (English Language and Literature Student, Bremen)

I have discovered whole lexical groups about technology and education. ... I learned, on the one hand, how to persuade, and, on the other hand, how to negotiate peacefully. That is why I think that this class has been a great experience for me which will probably have some influence on my future professional life. (Socrates Exchange Student from France studying in Bremen)

Cross-cultural Learning:

The team was a great cultural mixture. We had someone from France, from Croatia, from Russia and from Germany. We all come from totally different educational backgrounds and because of that I learned a lot about tertiary education in other countries, but about tertiary education in Germany as well. Because we were such a mixture we were able to bring into the simulation a lot of different views about how tertiary education should be. (English Language and Literature Student, Bremen)

I learned much about other cultures; in my team, there were people coming from Germany, Croatia, Russia, and, at the beginning, from China. So I learned about their culture in general and about their own education system in particular. (Socrates Exchange Student from France studying in Bremen)

Teamwork:

I think I learned a lot from this simulation. I found out that I am a good "team player." I liked working in a team very much. The reason for that is that I like each and every one of my team very much. (English Language and Literature Student, Bremen)

We have achieved important aspects, for example, we have learned that we must be more tolerant and flexible people. (Telecommunications Student, Valencia)

I have discovered much about myself during the simulation. Indeed, I know now that I really like human contact and communication, but also that it is as important to listen to the others as to talk to them. (Socrates Exchange Student from France studying in Bremen)

Thematic Focus (Content):

I have learned much about educational systems in general. Indeed, now an education has become much more than teachers, exams, and students: today my view is much broader, including financial, curricular, technological, and administrative aspects. So, I really understand what "educational system" means today.

I find that our French system is too general and not democratic enough: the students can not choose their classes within their main subject and often study only one subject. Thus, the simulation has enabled me to stand back from my own country. (Socrates Exchange Student from France studying in Bremen)

Technology:

I also learned a lot about using computers and especially about the OPUSi software. I was surprised that I got along with the program very well. That is probably a matter of how is structured. I have to thank the people who created this program because it is very easy to use.

I must admit that I discovered informatic and telematic tools at the same time as my pleasure in using them, although I first thought I hated those "impersonal communication tools." (Socrates Exchange Student from France studying in Bremen)
